Happily Ever Afters in film

(2020)

In 2020 I wrote a short essay (in the form of a digital book) on why it is that happy endings in film make me cry more than sad endings.
My work as an artist and illustrator often takes on a positive theme, I often say I cannot put myself fully into a piece of work unless I feel it and it makes me feel something. I respond best to artworks by others which make me feel, thus it only makes sense that I wish to create this reaction through my own work.

Film is perhaps the most powerful art-form and, as I’ve put below, gives me the feeling of my my heart swelling and my chest freezing, and my eyes blurring even though they are wide open.

To accompany my book (which you can view via the link below) I put together a montage of my favourite film endings, which can also be viewed below. Beneath the film are some scans of my book in it's physical form, it includes my thoughts, lists of noteable films and tests for elements of the final book.
